Who we are and what we believe

Salvo Photo & Video was founded 28 years ago by husband and wife team, Chris and Suzanne Salvo. Since that time the Salvos has traveled to over 70 countries on still and video assignments ranging from ad campaigns to CSR and annual reports imagery and including editorial illustration and social media support projects. Exotic shoot locations have included: Baghdad, the North Slope of Alaska, numerous places throughout India, remote islands in the South China Sea, Siberia, and the jungles of South America (ask Suzanne about the midnight battle with the giant spider). And that's just to name a few. They also have extensive experience in Middle East and Muslim countries including Indonesia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Kuwait and Iraq.

From over two decades of working with corporate, industrial and editorial clients, the Salvos understand the mindset and needs of the communicator. They know that clients expect more than mire image documentation and for the Salvos ‘just a pretty picture’ is not enough. That is why, unlike most photo and production studios, the Salvos begin a project by developing a visual strategic plan that will assure that the images captured will be on message and relate back to the client’s overall image, mission statement and core values. Experience shows that starting with a well thought out plan assures success.

And now they offer their expertise and experience to you in custom designed on site training for you and your staff. Everything from strategy for the ‘word-ographer’ to video editing techniques, archiving and of course hands-on shooting skills. If it has to do with images, still or moving, the Salvos have a training module for it.  Ask Suzanne how to put together a workshop to fit your specific needs.

Looking for a different perspective? The Salvos have logged hundreds of helicopter/small plane hours and hold HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) certificates as well as H2S/Sour Gas and SafeGulf offshore certification. They have completed countless courses on fall-prevention, rig and workboat safety, hot-work protocol, etc. Site specific safety classes have included ‘if we are overrun by insurgents’ at the client base camp in Nigeria and ‘en caso di attaco’ by terrorists at a Columbia jungle construction site. “We understand the importance of job safety,” says Suzanne. “We travel with our own PPE when needed. And security is every bit as important. Our client’s proprietary information is primal – we don’t shoot anything without asking first.”

The Salvos have a very long list of happy clients including ExxonMobil and Halliburton (plus many other energy majors), American Express, Intel, Lockheed Martin, Alcon Pharmaceuticals and Newsweek Magazine. Salvo Photography keeps getting work because as Suzanne says, “We are very good at turning boring, ugly stuff into amazing award-winning photos and video”. Accolades are too numerous to list but include Gold and Silver Addies, ARC top annual report photo awards, IABC Gold Quills, AMA Best in Show, recognition and profiles by The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), and selection in numerous juried shows including FOTOFEST.

We take it PERSONAL

The Salvos' individual talents and personalities are unique, and so is their approach to business.“We are the business.  There is no line between personal and professional success for us.”  For Chris and Suzanne Salvo, the only way to do business is to handle every project and every client on a personal level.  When Salvo Photo & Video agrees to an assignment, they commit their talents, minds, hearts and egos totally.  To the Salvos, making business personal means going beyond the expected on every project.

We give you PEACE OF MIND

"When it gets right down to it, clients really are buying trust, not images or videos," says Suzanne.  With over 20 years experience, often in difficult shooting conditions, the Salvos are a trusted team of creative professionals.  Sending Chris and Suzanne out on an assignment, whether it's across town or across the globe, means you don't have to worry.  With experience shooting award winning images in over 70 countries, they know how to manage complex multi-national projects and sensitive corporate subject matter. Their clients (list available upon request) trust the Salvos with their photography budget and more importantly, their company reputation.
